| Dear parents and students, |
| A month has swiftly passed, and the first day of October coincided with the National Day celebration, followed by the warm holidays of the Mid-Autumn Festival and the Chung Yeung Festival. With various activities unfolding one after another, this month once again flew by in a fulfilling and busy manner.
|
| In recent years, the Education Bureau has promoted the integration of curriculum updates into overall school planning, guided by the principles of “organic integration, natural connection, diverse strategies, mutual coordination, learning within and beyond the classroom, and whole-school approach.” Seizing this opportunity, we organized a cross-disciplinary themed activity for students—“LTY Mid-Autumn Celebration”—which connected different subjects through Mid-Autumn Festival-related content, helping students understand the relationships between areas of knowledge. This activity offered diverse learning experiences to deepen students’ understanding of traditional culture. Through collaboration among subject teachers, full participation from teacher and students, and enthusiastic involvement from parents, we not only promoted cross-curricular learning and reading but also aimed to achieve the following goals: enhance students’ sense of identity with Chinese traditional culture, deepen national identity awareness; showcase students’ abilities in art, language, and technology through a school-wide lantern exhibition; and cultivate healthy eating habits through related activities. The activities are arranged as follows:

Monday, 6th October was designated as Teacher Professional Development Day, during which students had no classes. The theme of the day was “Teacher’s Carpentry Workshop”—a training session aimed at strengthening teamwork among teachers through hands-on carpentry. In a relaxed creative process, teachers relieved work-related stress and promoted physical and mental well-being. Teachers were fully engaged in every step of making wooden stools—from assembling, drawing, to painting. Despite limited time, many teachers insisted on completing their work, even taking unfinished pieces home to continue, demonstrating the workshop’s success and appeal.

To continuously improve the quality of teaching, the principal launched a lesson observation program starting in October. The first phase of observations will run until mid-November, covering subjects such as Chinese, English, Mathematics, General Studies, Humanities, Science, and Moral & Civic Education. The second phase will focus on practical subjects and is scheduled after the assessment period.

From 22nd – 25th October, the school held its first cross-border exchange activity of the academic year, visiting Beijing, the capital of our country. On the eve of departure, teachers and students were understandably concerned—Hong Kong was experiencing a typhoon, and Beijing was facing a sudden drop in temperature, potentially affecting the trip. Fortunately, the weather cooperated, and although it was rainy on the day of departure, the flight proceeded smoothly. Upon arrival in Beijing, the temperature dropped significantly, prompting everyone to bundle up before beginning the itinerary, which included visits to the iconic Water Cube and Bird’s Nest from the 2008 Olympics. Faced with these grand and symbolic venues, teachers and students eagerly took photos to capture the memorable experience. The itinerary also included Wangfujing, the Palace Museum, the Bird’s Nest, the Water Cube, and the Zhoukoudian Site Museum. From the photos and students’ feedback, it was clear they were very satisfied with the meals and accommodations. We believe this first-hand experience helped students gain a more concrete and in-depth understanding of the country’s development and achievements.

Friday, 31st October marked the end of the month with a unique “Halloween and Casual Dress Day.” Coinciding with the 15th National Games, with eight events held in Hong Kong, we adopted the theme “Sporty Halloween”, combining Halloween festivities with sports elements. Various physical activities were designed for students, such as basketball shooting, throwing, and balance bike riding, encouraging them to stretch and enjoy the fun of exercise. We were honored to invite LKWFS Chu Sui Lan Anglo-Chinese Kindergarten to join us. Both our students and the kindergarteners enthusiastically participated in creative and quirky costumes, creating a joyful and harmonious atmosphere.

This year, our school’s new generation of uniforms was officially launched and quickly received unanimous praise from parents and students. The new uniforms feature refreshed color combinations and design styles, with significantly improved comfort, making students more willing to wear them and naturally learn to cherish and care for them.
Regarding whether schools should implement a uniform policy, opinions have always varied. I understand that many students prefer casual wear—it’s comfortable and allows for personal style expression. However, casual attire can easily lead to comparisons among students regarding fashion trends and clothing prices, which may gradually foster a negative campus atmosphere.

In my view, wearing a school uniform carries profound positive significance. Putting on a uniform each morning is not just a simple ritual—it’s a strong psychological cue that signals the transition into learning mode and encourages a focused attitude toward school life. This aligns with the concept of “Teacher in role” in drama convention—using external identity markers to help us quickly assume our roles and wholeheartedly play the part of “students” during this important life stage.
At the beginning of October, when the uniform supplier came to measure students for winter uniforms, I suddenly had an idea: why not order a set for myself and wear it in front of students and parents to demonstrate the correct way to wear the uniform? More importantly, I hope this action shows how uniforms naturally integrate with values education.

A school uniform is never just a piece of clothing—it is a clear symbol of student identity and a vital vehicle for conveying positive values. Uniformity reflects unity, reminding everyone that they are indispensable members of the school family. Wearing the uniform daily fosters a sense of responsibility toward learning; following uniform regulations subtly builds awareness of law and order. Wearing the uniform means representing the school’s image, and in any situation, we must show resilience and strength. Neat attire reflects self-respect and consideration for teachers and peers.

We must also hold gratitude in our hearts, appreciating our parents’ tireless efforts in preparing uniforms and learning supplies. This deep filial love should be transformed into concrete actions—pursuing excellence in academics, showing care and understanding in daily life, and ultimately growing into responsible, compassionate individuals who can support the future of our nation.
